Principal- Alicia Hodal

I am incredibly honored to serve as the new principal of Swansboro Middle School. I bring with me years of experience in education as a teacher, coach, and school administrator, and I am excited to join the Pirate community.

To share a little bit about myself, I was born and raised just outside of Chicago, where I began my path in education as a high school teacher and coach. I went on to earn my master’s degree in School Administration and my Education Specialist degree from Northern Illinois University, and I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I have previously served as a math teacher and coach at West Aurora High School and Kadena High School, Dean of Students at West Aurora High School, and Assistant Principal at Lompoc High School and Jacksonville High School. As the spouse of a newly retired Marine, I have had the opportunity to serve as an educator in Illinois, California, Japan, and now our forever home here in North Carolina. This will be my eighth year as a school administrator, and I am genuinely looking forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff, and working together to ensure every child feels supported, challenged, and celebrated.

Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, golfing, going to the beach, reading, and spending time with my husband, 5-year-old daughter Alessia, and 3-year-old son Robert.
